Community Grants

The Taunton River Stewardship Council runs a Community Grants Program with the purpose of to support local efforts that help to protect and enhance river resources. Requests for funding can range from $500 to $25,000. All funding requests should be presented to the TRSC and are voted upon at regularly scheduled meetings.

Examples of projects funded by the TRSC community grants program include:

  •  Taunton River Watershed Alliance (TRWA): TRSC has provided grant support for  the Annual Taunton River Festival, Junior Members Photography Program, Water Quality Monitoring Program, Angler Education Day, and the Terrapin Rescue and Rehabilitation program (with Bristol County Agricultural High School); approximately 400 people participated in the Junior Members and Angler Education programs in total; TRSC‘s contribution supplemented hundreds of hours of in-kind support from local and state stewards, educators, and others. The Terrapin program has been highly successful and has completed its seventh year.

  •  Freetown: TRSC provided grant support for a riverfront restoration project at Hathaway Park on the Assonet River; an additional heavy equipment and personnel match was provided by the town, as well as many hours of in-kind service from a local landscape architect.

  •  Winnetuxet River (Plympton/Halifax): TRSC grant funds helped to leverage MA state MVP funds in order to conduct a study on preservation of land in the Winnetuxet River Watershed in order to promote regional resiliency and help to preserve some of the most critical habitat in the state.
